Configure cash and card on delivery

A store's Payment methods settings can list Cash on Delivery (COD) and Card on Delivery as payment options. The source does not establish their availability for every store or region, or how a payment gateway affects them.

Enable cash and card on delivery​

  1. Open a store's Payment methods settings.
  2. Enable Cash on Delivery and/or Card on Delivery so customers can select them at checkout.

Enabling a toggle is configuration only. It does not by itself confirm checkout display or selection, order confirmation, payment collection or authorization, fraud outcome, fulfillment, satisfaction, or repeat purchase.

Cash on delivery considerations​

  • Payment timing — use this setting when a store intends to offer a pay-on-delivery option.
  • Payment-method choice — evaluate whether a cash option fits the store's intended customer experience.
  • Store operations — define the store's own collection, reconciliation, and fulfillment procedures separately.

Card on delivery considerations​

  • Payment method — use this setting when a store intends to offer a card option at delivery.
  • Operational readiness — evaluate card collection equipment, authorization, reconciliation, and delivery procedures separately.
  • Outcome boundary — the setting does not confirm a card charge, confirmation, processing speed, or fulfillment.

Common use cases​

  • Grocery delivery — a store may consider a pay-on-delivery option.
  • Restaurant and food delivery — a store may evaluate which payment options to configure.
  • Retail — a store may consider whether cash or card on delivery fits its process.
  • Healthcare and pharmacy delivery — a store may evaluate payment options alongside its own delivery requirements.
