# Stripe Connect V2: automatic payouts to stores and drivers

[Back to the main guide](https://docs.ordering.co/docs/products/dashboard/addons/stripe-connect/)

Stripe Connect V2 distributes each card payment between the platform, the store, and the driver. You set the rules once in the Dashboard; the transfers happen automatically when the delivery is completed.

## How the payment is distributed

The customer's full payment first reaches the platform's Stripe account. Then:

- **When the driver completes the order**, the store's and the driver's amounts are transferred automatically, according to the configured rules.
- **When an administrator completes the order**, only the store's amount is transferred automatically. The driver's amount stays in the platform account, and the administrator can make a manual payout if needed.
- **When a store or driver cannot receive funds** (for example, their Stripe account is not connected yet), the platform keeps that recipient's amount.

To receive transfers, each recipient needs a connected Stripe account that is enabled to receive funds.

## Before you start

- Complete the standard Stripe Connect setup in Ordering. See [Accept payments](https://docs.ordering.co/docs/discovery-ordering/launch-your-marketplace/part-3-build-the-marketplace/accept-payments/) and the [Stripe Connect guide](https://docs.ordering.co/docs/products/dashboard/addons/stripe-connect/).
- The Stripe accounts for the platform, stores, and drivers must be in the **same country** and use the **same currency**.
- Confirm that Stripe Connect is available in the country where you will operate.
- Every store and driver that will receive funds needs to connect their own Stripe account.

> **Set your Stripe keys once**
>
> Changing any of the Stripe keys later resets the Stripe Connect configuration.

## 1. Enable Stripe Connect Payouts

1. In the Dashboard, go to **Settings › Payments › Stripe Connect**.
2. Complete the standard Stripe Connect setup if you have not done so already.
3. Set **Stripe Connect payouts** to **Yes**.
4. Configure the platform fee and driver payment rules described below.
5. Select **Save**.

## 2. Configure the platform fee

In the **Configuration** tab, the **Platform fee** is what the platform keeps from each order. It is the sum of two parts:

- **Fixed amount:** a fixed amount per order.
- **Percentage:** a percentage of the product subtotal.

For example, with a fixed amount of 0 and 10%, an order with 20.00 in products gives the platform 2.00. The Dashboard shows a calculation example before you save.

The platform fee applies to every store that does not have its own rule. You can override it per store (see step 5).

![Platform fee settings with a fixed amount, a percentage of the product subtotal, and a calculation example](https://docs.ordering.co/img/docs/dashboard/addons/stripe-connect-payouts/platform-fee.jpg)

## 3. Configure driver payment

On the same screen, below **Platform fee**, find **Driver payment**. A driver earns the sum of five parts for each delivery:

1. **Per order:** a fixed amount per order, a percentage of the product subtotal, or a percentage of the order total.
2. **Delivery fee:** the percentage of the delivery fee the driver receives.
3. **Tip:** the percentage of the tip the driver receives.
4. **Extra fixed amount** (optional): an additional fixed amount per delivery.
5. **Extra percentage** (optional): an additional percentage of the product subtotal.

The extra fixed amount and extra percentage can be used together. At the end of the section, an example shows what a driver would receive under the selected rules. Review it before saving.

For example, an order with 20.00 in products, a 3.00 delivery fee, and a 2.00 tip (the customer pays 25.00), with 10% of the delivery fee and 100% of the tip, gives the driver 2.30.

These are the global rules. To apply different terms to one driver, see [Rules for a specific driver](#rules-for-a-specific-driver).

## 4. Connect the driver's Stripe account

### From the Driver App (recommended)

1. The driver opens **Profile**.
2. They open **Stripe account**.
3. They follow the steps to connect their Stripe account.
4. They check that **Your Stripe account is ready** appears. They can update their information later with **Update details**.

### From the Dashboard

Open the driver's profile in the Dashboard and select the **Stripe Connect** tab. There you can see whether the account is connected and which Stripe requirements are pending. You can also start the connection with **Continue in Stripe** or **Copy onboarding link**, although it is recommended that drivers complete the process from their own account.

### Rules for a specific driver

The rules in **Driver payment** apply by default. For a driver with different terms:

1. Open the driver's profile in the Dashboard.
2. Go to the **Stripe Connect** tab.
3. In **Driver payment**, switch from **Inherit global** to **Override**.
4. Set the agreed terms for that driver and save.

This keeps individual agreements without changing the global rules for other drivers.

## 5. Configure Stripe Connect V2 for each store

1. Open the store's settings.
2. In its payment methods, select **Stripe Connect V2**.
3. Connect the store's Stripe account using the standard procedure. See [Set up Stripe Connect as a business owner](https://docs.ordering.co/docs/products/dashboard/addons/stripe-connect/business-owner-setup/).
4. Review the **Platform fee** tab. Keep the global rule, or use **Override** when the store's commercial agreement differs from other stores.
5. Select **Save**.

The name **Stripe Connect V2** distinguishes this payment method from the previous Stripe Connect.

## What the customer sees

For the customer, paying works like any other payment method: add products to the cart, go to checkout, select **Stripe Connect V2**, and complete the payment. The customer does not configure how the payment is distributed; those rules are managed in the Dashboard.

## Track payouts

### Store payouts

In the store's **Stripe Connect V2** settings, the **Payouts** tab shows the payout history with the amounts for each order (customer paid, Stripe fee, platform, driver, and store) and these statuses:

- **Pending:** there are amounts still to be transferred. Check the reason shown, for example, waiting for the driver to connect a Stripe account.
- **Distribution needs review:** the distribution needs attention. Check the reason shown, for example, a delivery completed without an assigned driver.
- **Paid:** the amount was transferred to the corresponding Stripe account. When it reaches the bank account depends on Stripe.

Review both the overall order status and each recipient's status.

![Store payout history with Pending, Distribution needs review, and Paid orders showing the split per recipient](https://docs.ordering.co/img/docs/dashboard/addons/stripe-connect-payouts/store-payout-history.jpg)

### Driver payouts

Drivers see their amounts in **Profile › Payouts** in the Driver App, filtered by **All**, **Paid**, **Pending**, and **In review**.

![Driver App Payouts screen listing paid deliveries with All, Paid, Pending, and In review filters](https://docs.ordering.co/img/docs/dashboard/addons/stripe-connect-payouts/driver-app-payouts.jpg)

> **Cash orders are not included**
>
> This history covers Stripe Connect V2 transactions only. Orders paid in cash do not appear as Stripe payouts, so do not use it as a summary of all of a driver's earnings. Settle cash with [driver invoices](https://docs.ordering.co/docs/products/dashboard/reports/invoice-manager/driver-invoices/).

## Test before going live

1. In **Settings › Payments › Stripe Connect**, set **Enable Stripe Connect Testing Mode** to **Yes** and enter your **Test Client ID**.
2. Connect a test store and a test driver with Stripe test accounts. Both should show they can receive transfers.
3. Place a delivery order paid by card using a [Stripe test card](https://docs.stripe.com/testing), such as `4242 4242 4242 4242` with any future date and any CVC.
4. Have the driver complete the delivery from the Driver App.
5. Check the store's payout history and the driver's **Payouts** screen. Each recipient should show **Paid**.

Do not use a live card, a real customer, or a live store as a test.

## Go live

1. Make sure every store and driver has completed Stripe's onboarding. They receive transfers only once Stripe enables them on their account.
2. Set **Enable Stripe Connect Testing Mode** to **No** and confirm your live Client ID and live keys.
3. Mark test orders as completed or cancelled so they do not clutter your reports.
4. Place one small real order and confirm the store and driver both show **Paid**.

For the full launch sequence, see the [test drive](https://docs.ordering.co/docs/discovery-ordering/launch-your-marketplace/part-6-go-live/test-drive/) and the [pre-launch checklist](https://docs.ordering.co/docs/discovery-ordering/launch-your-marketplace/part-6-go-live/pre-launch-checklist/).
