Accept payments

Customers pay through a payment gateway that you open in your business's name. Connect it once at the platform level, then switch it on for each store.

Time: 30 min plus gateway approval

Choose your gateway

The platform connects with many gateways, including Stripe (and Stripe Connect for split payments), Mercado Pago, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay, Adyen, Mollie, Paystack, Razorpay, and several regional options. Some are self-service and some need a short setup review with the team. Choose one that works in your country and pays out in your currency. If you plan to split card payments with merchants automatically, choose a gateway with split support, such as Stripe Connect or Mercado Pago (Chapter 24).

Connect Stripe (example)

  1. Open and verify your Stripe account in your company's name.
  2. Copy your four keys from Stripe: live publishable, live secret, test publishable, and test secret.
  3. Paste them in Settings › Card payments with your currency. Turn testing mode on while you test.
  4. Turn Stripe on in each store. Open the store's Payment methods, tick Stripe, and choose the order types and channels where it applies. It does not switch on automatically for all stores.
  5. Place a test order with a test card, then switch testing mode off before launch.
Watch out

Changing any of the Stripe keys later resets the Stripe Connect configuration. Set them once, carefully.

Cash and card on delivery

Turn them on per store in Payment methods. You can limit cash to delivery orders, for example. Cash and in-person card payments do not go through your gateway: they go to whoever collects them, so settle them later through invoices (Chapter 25).

Wallet and gift cards

Customers can also pay with their wallet balance, gift cards, or loyalty points if you turn those features on (Chapter 36).

People often ask

"Do customer card payments go to me or to the merchant?"

With a standard gateway, payments go to your account and you pay merchants later. With split payments, each payment is divided at the moment of the order. Chapter 24 explains both.
